The XD5 is a 5 HP horizontal reciprocating compressor for busy shops, automotive bays and paint booths that need a strong supply of air from a compact machine. It moves 20 CFM at up to 175 PSI on 230V power, wired for either single-phase or three-phase supply at 60 Hz. Rather than a belt and pulleys, the motor connects to the pump through a direct-drive coupling, so there is no belt to tension or replace and no exposed rotating parts. The pump has two cast iron cylinders with a stainless steel valve system, and forced-air cooling keeps operating temperatures down; with synthetic lubricant, oil changes can be stretched to roughly 3,000 hours. A magnetic starter with motor overload protection and an automatic pressure switch handle starting and stopping, so the machine cycles on its own as demand changes. Storage is a powder-coated 80 gallon steel tank certified to ASME and CRN standards, with a manual drain valve and tubing. Four vibration pads and a discharge ball valve are included in the box. The horizontal tank layout gives the machine a low profile, which suits rooms where ceiling height is limited or where the unit has to slide under a mezzanine or bench line. Day-to-day upkeep is limited to checking the oil level, inspecting the intake filter and draining condensate from the tank on a regular schedule. Because the pump is oil lubricated and air cooled, it works best in a ventilated space with a clean, dry intake, and it should be kept clear of dust from grinding or sanding operations.
